Headphones talk to you through beeps, and sometimes it feels like they're just beeping for the fun of it. They're not. Every sound means something. Here's the translation guide.
The most common signal sounds
- Power-on sound: the headphones woke up. All good.
- Power-off sound: a longer melody, the headphones are going to sleep. It takes a moment, that's normal, not a freeze.
- Pairing alert or "connected": a connection to the device was established.
- Disconnect sound: the Bluetooth connection dropped. You can't turn this one off, it's intentional so you know when you're listening to nothing.
- Low battery beep: go charge it. It won't stop beeping until you obey, and that's exactly the point.
- "Du du" (VMK25.2): factory reset successful.
- "Di" and "di-di" (Nordell Micro): stereo pairing steps. "Di" means the speaker is ready, "di-di" means the pair found each other.
Headphones beeping on their own?
The usual culprit is multipoint: VMK headphones can be paired to two devices at once, and when one of them wanders out of range, the headphone misses it and beeps about it. The fix: forget the headphones from the Bluetooth menu of the device you're not using anymore, or just turn off that device's Bluetooth.
Another classic is a phone in your pocket, with the signal cutting through your body. Move the phone to the same side of your body as your headphones.
Teams' double ring sound in Windows
A call comes in and you hear two ringtones overlapping or back to back (the "ping pong" effect). This isn't a headphone problem: Windows plays a notification sound through both the headphones and the computer speakers, and Teams layers its own on top.
The fix:
- Open Teams settings → Devices
- Turn off "Secondary ringer" or set it to only one device
- Check your Windows sound settings to make sure the default device is actually the one you want
Phone's voice assistant wakes up by accident
Double-pressing the MFB button wakes up Siri or Google Assistant when you are not on a call. That's a feature. If the assistant wakes up in your pocket, it's usually pressure hitting the button. During a call the same gesture does something else: two quick presses mute the VMK15's mic.
