Life is cruel sometimes. You fall asleep with your headphones on, wake up to realise you've been lying on them all night, and in the morning the most important button no longer works. Or your nine-year-old heir decides to test gravity at your headphones' expense. The result is the same: the MFB button – the middle one that does practically everything – is as unresponsive as an ex.
Good news: this is fixable. We don't throw devices in the bin.
What went wrong?
The middle button on the right side of the VMK25 is called the MFB (Multi-Function Button). It's the one you use to power on the headphones, answer calls, and wake up the voice assistant. So yeah, it's a pretty essential button.
Mechanical damage usually happens in one of two ways:
- A drop: The headphones hit the floor and the impact lands in just the right spot. Even knee height is enough if the floor is hard.
- Falling asleep with headphones on: The button gets squeezed between the pillow and your head overnight. Eight hours of constant pressure does the trick.
In both cases, the mechanism underneath the button gets damaged or comes loose. The button feels like you're pressing nothing – no click, no response, no anything.
This isn't a software issue, so resetting or updating won't help. It's a purely mechanical problem.
Can you fix this yourself?
Short answer: don't bother trying. Some brave souls have cracked open their headphones and attempted a DIY fix. We respect the courage, but we really recommend leaving this one to us. There are tiny components inside, and without the right tools you'll easily cause more damage.
If you've already opened the headphones and had a peek inside – no worries. That doesn't automatically ruin anything, as long as you haven't disconnected cables or bent the circuit board.
How to get your headphones serviced
- Drop us a message: Write to info@valco.fi
- Include these details:
- Order number (you'll find it in your order confirmation)
- A short description of what happened
- A photo of the headphones (especially that button)
- Wait for instructions: We'll tell you where to send the headphones and how
- Ship the headphones to our service centre in Kajaani: Jasse and the rest of the service team will take it from there
What about warranty?
The VMK25 comes with a 24-month warranty. If your headphones are within the warranty period and it's a material or manufacturing defect, the repair is of course free of charge.
However, drops and falling-asleep-accidents count as user-caused damage, so they're not covered by warranty. But don't worry – we have a repair package for exactly these situations. It costs a fraction of a new pair, and you get fully working headphones back.
We're flexible about it if your case is a borderline one. Nice customers always get a little extra from us.
If all else fails
If you don't get a reply to your email within 24 hours, give it another go. Sometimes spam filters make their own executive decisions. You can also reach out via Valco's social media channels – we respond there too.
Headphones are made to be repaired. One broken button isn't a death sentence – it's a service visit. And every repair funds another tiny slice of our Death Star.
