The Nordell MK3 light turns blue after pressing the 3D button
So you pressed the 3D button and the speaker light decided to turn blue. No worries – it’s not an alert about a nuclear reactor overheating and the speaker isn’t shifting to another dimension. The issue is known and the fix is easy.
Why does the light turn blue?
Older firmware versions of the Nordell MK3 have a bug where pressing the 3D button messes up the LED status indicator. The speaker thinks it’s in a different state than it really is – a bit like on a Monday morning before coffee.
In practice, the light shows blue because the software misinterprets the 3D mode switch and jumps to the wrong LED state. The 3D audio effect itself may still work just fine in the background. So the fault is cosmetic, but it’s annoying when the device doesn’t do what it promises.
How to fix it
Fortunately, the fix is simple – update the firmware. Here’s how:
- Download the Valco app to your phone (available for iOS and Android)
- Turn on the Nordell MK3 and connect it to your phone via Bluetooth
- Open the app and let it detect the speaker
- Check for updates – the app will tell you if a newer firmware is available
- Install the update and leave the speaker alone during the update. Do not turn it off mid-way, no matter how much you feel like pressing buttons
- Restart the speaker after the update
After the update, the 3D button works as it should: press once and 3D mode turns on. Press again and it turns off. The light honestly shows which state it’s in.
Note: Keep at least 30% battery charge in the speaker before updating. A firmware update interrupted by a dead battery is about as fun as a wet sock.
If the update doesn’t help
If you’ve updated the firmware and the light still misbehaves, try these as well:
- Factory reset: Turn the speaker off, hold the power button for 10 seconds. The speaker forgets everything and starts from a clean slate.
- Check the Bluetooth connection: Remove the speaker from your phone’s Bluetooth list and pair again (hold the M button for 5 seconds to enter pairing mode).

Though blue is indeed a beautiful color. Depression Blue, our favorite. But it should show the correct state and not just paint art.
