Headphones on the charger, nothing. No light, no sound, no signs of life. Feels like trying to wake up a teenager on a Saturday morning. Don't worry – this usually sorts itself out without a repair.
Why doesn't the charging light come on?
The most common reasons are pretty mundane:
- The battery is completely dead. If the headphones have been sitting in a drawer without charging for ages, the battery may have drained to absolute zero. The charging circuit won't show a light right away – it needs a moment to wake up. Totally normal.
- The cable or charger isn't working properly. There are millions of USB-C cables out there, and some of them were made primarily for decorative purposes.
- The charging port has collected lint or dust. Headphones that live in your pocket pick up everything imaginable.
- The charger isn't delivering enough power. Some computer USB ports are lazier than an office worker on a Friday afternoon.
How to fix it
Go through these in order:
- Swap the cable. Try a different USB-C cable. Preferably one you've successfully charged something else with.
- Swap the power source. Use a phone wall charger, not a computer USB port. A wall charger delivers more consistent power.
- Clean the charging port. Grab a toothpick or a dry, soft brush and carefully dig the port clean. Blowing into it works too, but don't spit in there.
- Give it time. Plug in the charger and leave the headphones alone for 15-30 minutes. If the battery has been completely dead for a long time, the charging circuit may wake up slowly. The light will come on once enough charge has built up.
- Try an AUX reset. Plug a 3.5mm AUX cable into the headphones and unplug it. This resets the Bluetooth circuit, and sometimes helps with charging issues too. Try charging again after this.
- Check if the port is loose. If the USB-C connector goes in but feels loose and doesn't click in properly, there might be a mechanical fault with the port.
If nothing helps
If you've gone through all the steps and nothing worked, the charging port or battery has most likely packed it in. Time for a repair.
