USB-C is the most common connector in the world, and yet every other cable and charger seems to be somehow wrong. It's not your fault – the USB-C standard is about as clear as a tax code. But don't worry, this is usually easy to fix.
Why won't VMK25 charge?
VMK25 charges over USB-C, but it's basically picky. The most common reasons:
- The charger is too powerful or too dumb. Some fast chargers (e.g. 100W USB-C PD chargers) may not negotiate properly with a small pair of headphones. The charger tries to speak the USB Power Delivery language, the headphones speak basic USB, and the result is silence.
- The cable is data-only. Not all USB-C cables carry power properly. That cheap cable from the bottom of the box might be meant for data transfer only.
- The battery is completely empty. If the headphones have been sitting empty for a long time, the charging electronics may need a moment of waking up before the charging light turns on.
- Lint has accumulated in the port. USB-C ports that ride in pockets collect dust and lint surprisingly quickly.
How to fix it
- Try the original charger and cable. That boring basic charger that came in the box or that you find in an old phone's package — it's probably the best option. VMK25 wants 5V/1A, no rocket science.
- Change the cable. Try another USB-C cable. Preferably one you've successfully used to charge something else.
- Change the charger. If you're using a 65W laptop charger or a similar powerhouse, try a basic phone charger instead. Lower power is better here.
- Check the port. Peek into the USB-C port. If you see lint or dust, carefully pick it out with a toothpick or similar. Carefully — no metal objects.
- Give it time. If the battery has been completely empty for a long time, connect the charger and wait 5–10 minutes. The charging light may turn on with a delay.
- Try an AUX reset. Plug a 3.5 mm AUX cable into the headphones and unplug it. This resets the Bluetooth chip, and sometimes it also kicks the charging electronics awake.
Note: VMK25 does not support charging while in use
If you moved from VMK20 to VMK25 and are wondering why the headphones can't be used while charging — unfortunately, that's true. On VMK25, charging and use do not work simultaneously. You can listen via an AUX cable while the headphones are plugged into the charger, but Bluetooth listening during charging is not possible.
