Nordell Micro is a pocket-sized speaker, not a home theatre. That said, it's an honest little performer that does surprisingly good work within the limits of its size. If the sound isn't doing it for you though, let's go through a few things before you pack it back in the box.
Why it sounds the way it sounds
Nordell Micro is a 200-gram mono speaker with a 40 mm driver. Physics is ruthless: big bass doesn't come out of a small speaker. Not from Sony, not from Bose, not from anyone. That's just how it is.
Jasse tuned the Micro specifically for clarity – speech, audiobooks, and situations where you want to hear the words, not a subwoofer rumbling away. If you were expecting deep bass and a lush stereo image, your expectations were in the wrong place. That's not the Micro's fault, that's physics.
How to get more out of it
Before returning it, give these a go:
- Place the speaker in a corner or next to a wall. Room acoustics work wonders. A corner naturally boosts bass, and the difference is surprisingly big. Try different spots – at this size, placement really matters.
- Turn up the volume. The Micro sounds best when it's got a bit of room to breathe. At low volume, the sound stays thin.
- Try stereo pairing. If you've got two Micros or you're thinking about grabbing another one, two speakers together produce a completely different class of sound. Pair them by pressing the Play/Pause button on both and waiting for the 'di-di' tone. A stereo pair is like putting on both shoes instead of just one.
- Check your source. Low-quality streaming sounds rubbish on all speakers. Spotify Free's 128 kbps doesn't do justice to anything.
- Try a TF card. Direct playback from a memory card bypasses the limitations of Bluetooth's SBC codec.
If it's still not enough
If you've tried everything and the sound just isn't your cup of tea, that's completely fair. You can't argue about taste, and a small mono speaker isn't for everyone.
We have a 30-day return policy. Drop us a message at info@valco.fi, include your order number, and we'll sort out the return. No need to explain or justify – "it wasn't my thing" is a perfectly good reason.
If you like the Micro's size and water resistance but want bigger sound, check out our larger speakers. They've got more room for drivers and physics is a lot kinder.
The Micro was made for what it does best: the shower, a bike ride, the tent, and the hot dog stand. It won't replace your living room speaker, but that's what we've got other options for. And hey, someone's gotta fund that Death Star speaker system somehow.
